Giclee Printing

Giclee Printing

The definition of giclee (zhee-klay) means a spray or a spirt of liquid.

This digital printing process is accomplished typically by using professional, 6-12 color, ink-jet printers. We use the Epson 10000 print system that requires the use of archival, pigmented inks and the Epson 2200 print system that uses dye based and pigmented inks. This state of the art technology produces incredibly detailed prints.  Images are generated by digital photograph or high resolution scan and can be printed on several substrates including canvas, fine art papers and photo papers.

The advantages of giclee' printing are 1) it eliminates the prohibitive up front costs associated with mass production, 2) it allows the artist to test the market to determine public interest, 3)it allows print generation on a limited or demand basis. Limited editions are controlled by the artist. The artist's images are digitally archived so that additional reproductions can be made with minimal effort and at a reasonable cost.  Digital image reproduction gives the artist opportunities to customize according to their need.

Giclee prints do not fade due to the inks used to produce the prints. With protective coatings they even can become water resistant.
